Tum Bin 2- Good Music, Bad film

Release date- 18th Nov 2016

One Word which describes the film- Monotonous

Best Dialogue- "Life mein joh hum chahte hai aur joh hum chunte hai, uske beech mein hamari kamzori chupi hoti hai, aur kabhi kabhi taqat."

Genre- Romance/ Drama

Music- Ankit Tiwary, Nikhil-Vinay

Producer- Bhushan Kumar, Anubhav Sinha

Story & Direction- Anubhav Sinha

CastNeha Sharma, Aashim Gulati, Aditya Seal

Budget- 20 Crores approximately including P & A

In 2001, Anubhav Sinha made his directorial debut with Tum Bin which was a surprise hit at the box office, even beating director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's debut film Aks in terms of collection. That a film starring newcomers did better than a film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Manoj Bajpai and Raveena Tandon was a big surprise for Anubhav Sinha and the film industry.
Guess even after 15 years Anubhav Sinha is still suffering from the hangover of Tum Bin's success.
Tum Bin 2 is definitely the most disappointing sequel which could have been made in the history of Indian cinema.
A sequel is used for a cinematic work which is complete in itself but continues the narrative of a preceding work. Tum Bin 2 looked like an attempt to relive the same story rather than telling us a new story.
The film started with the hit song 'Dekh Lena' sung by Arijit Singh where Neha Sharma and Aditya Seal are shown romancing in the beautiful snow covered Scotland. The film progresses and we get to see more scenic beauty, beautiful houses and streets.
The other hero Aashim Gulati appears and slowly the story starts following the footsteps of Tum Bin. Till interval the story barely manages to hold our interest but afterwards it becomes totally senseless and directionless.
In the start there was a certain chemistry in between the boy and girl but once the third boy enters the story, the film totally loses its plot and we wonder what the director is trying to show.
We went with the expectation of a fresh love story but what we get to see is the same set of events, where even the main characters were named Shekhar and Amar.
The item song featuring Mouni Roy and Neha Kakkar was a big disappointment too where Neha Kakkar looked like a fat overweight girl and Mouni Roy hardly got any screen space.
The director even tried to throw a random kiss here and there but by then the audience was so bored that it couldn't save the film.
Neha Sharma and Aashim Gulati are average. Aditya Seal looked good in pictures but the moment he opened his mouth he totally alienated the audience.
The first promo of the film had the hit song "Teri Fariyad" sung by Rekha Bhardwaj with portions from the original song sung by Jagjit Singh. It did create some buzz but music was unable to save a bad story which was made worse by the lecture kind of dialogues like "Life is a summer vacation, it's going to end".
The makers have to realise that in this digital age when there is so much free content in the form of web series, what worked earlier is not going to work now.
The film was released in 1200 screens and has collected less than 2 Crores in 2 days.
In a line, the film is a totally wasted attempt to cash on the success of Tum Bin and has been rejected by the audience.
Avoidable.

Review of Kriti

Release Date- 22nd June on You Tube

Genre- Psychological Thriller

Cast- Manoj Bajpai, Radhika Apte, Neha Sharma

Direction/ Background Score/ Editing- Shirish Kunder

Production- Muvizz.com

Releasing short films on You Tube came into fashion after film makers realized that the younger generation preferred You Tube over TV and even theaters.
Sirish Kunder who has been black listed in the audiences' mind for making films like Jaaneman and Joker has tried to reclaim his directorial skills with this 18 minutes short film.
The film starts with Manoj Bajpai's interaction with his psychiatrist. In just a short span of time his expressions turn from excitement to anxiety to anger and finally to realisation. He will surely keep you guessing till the end.
Though Radhika Apte has acted in few films, she has the confidence of a seasoned actress. She has just 3 scenes but she will leave her impact on your mind.
Neha Sharma has done 4-5 films but she will always be remembered as the girl with a chirpy voice, long legs and no expressions. She just adds glamour to the film.
Background music is a bit weak. Overall the film is fast and triggers your thinking process.

In a line you can surely find 18 minutes from your busy schedule for Manoj Bajapi, the guy who has entertained you since the mega TV serial, Swabhimaan (Doordarshan) days.

Review of Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story

Release date - 15'th February 2013

One Line which describes the film – Implausible

Best  Dialogue
 – " Joking re, sense of humorous "

Genre -  Romance / Comedy

Story -
Kiran Kotrial

Music – Sachin-Jigar

Producer -  Kumar S. Taurani

Direction Vinnil Markan

Budget – 10- 15 crores (approximately)

Eleven years back Vivek Oberoi started his career with  Company for which he got best Filmfare Best Debut Award and Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award . He gave another try at being a gangster in Shootout at Lokhandwala for which he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Villain Award . This time his attempt to pose as a gangster who falls in love for the beautiful and educated Neha has totally failed to impress the audience or critics .

The film appeared to be made in two parts . First part had the songs which were lavishly shot , had good choreography and  looked like a part of a big budget film .Second part which was the main film had just 2-3 poorly made sets which looked as fake as Vivek's bhai accent in the film .  Vivek keeps calling Neha Bhadotri , Bhaodtri in the film without telling the viewers its meaning. When I checked Google I came to know it meant 'tenant ' !

The film had random scenes which appeared one after the another which made no contribution in keeping the audience entertained . Vivek , the gangster had no  good scenes or actions. His only work was to beat some petty gangsters 2-3 times in the film and listen to sarcastic comments from his boss .

The most unbelievable  character was that of Neha Sharma who is out of job , faints because of malnutrition but roams around with salon treated hair and briefest briefs . She belongs to an orthodox family but has no problems in  drinking and dancing with the gangster next door .

The story had so many episodes that before the first one had the chance to develop or engross the audience some other episode started . We could not decide whether the story was about a girl with big dreams which got shattered due to recession or a temperamental guy who wanted to be a   big gangster , or a girl who wants to keep her father in dark by pretending she was dating a rich guy or a gangster who had a change of heart and just wants that people should do the right things in life.

In a line this love story is so lame that even the biggest Vivek Oberoi fan would say that he should stay away from romance and do roles like Maya Dolas or Prathap Ravi Rakht Charitra I )
Highly Avoidable .

Rank- 11   (Out of the 11 films I have seen in 2013 )
