Housefull 3 - Dumb,dumber and dumbest!

Release date- 3rd June 2016

One Word which describes the film- No-brainer

Dumbest Dialogue- 'Hum bacche nahi bana rahe' (We are not kidding)

Genre- Slapstick Comedy

Music-Sohail SenMika SinghSharib-Toshi, Tanishk Bagchi, Milind Gaba

Story & Direction-Sajid-Farhad

Budget- 90 Crores including P & A approximately

Housefull (2010), directed by Sajid Khan was made on a budget of 50 Crores and earned almost 100 Crores at the box office. It's a copy of Tamil movie 'Kaathala Kaathalastarring Kamal Haasan and Prabhu Deva.
Housefull 2: The Dirty Dozen (2012) was also directed by Sajid Khan. It had a budget of 60 Crores and earned almost 120 Crores at the box office. The movie was a remake of 2003 hit Tamil movie Banda Paramasivam.
Housefull 3 is directed by Sajid-Farhad who have written dialogues for many films including Housefull 2,  Bol Bachchan & Chennai Express. It had a huge budget so the makers have used every trick in the book to make it a big film.
There is a huge castle, beach wedding, garden wedding, exotic locations, beautiful heroines in skimpy clothes, yacht parties, car races and even a Madam Tussauds set to add grandeur to the film. Cinematography is excellent and you find yourself in a dream world.
The only problem is that in this dream world all the characters are purposely made to look dumb. There are thieves who steal diamonds without any planning, a side hero who tries to win a car race by running to the finish line, a rap-singer who starts abusing the judges in Hindi when he is rejected and last but not the least three girls who try to keep screwing English phrases by translating them in Hindi.
So when a girl says, 'Kaamwali gayi, kamwali gayi', she means 'let bygones be bygones' , 'Naukri neeche' means 'Calm down' and Saandh ki aankh maarna' means 'Hit the bull's eye'.
Then there is Boman Irani who still uses  the much used and abused whattsapp jokes like ,'Phal dho ke khane chahiye, dirty to picture bhi hai' or 'Insaan ko humesha khush rehna chahiye. Gambhir toh Gautam bhi hai'. Like in Chennai Express, here too many times the actors start speaking in Gujarati which further breaks the already slow pace of the film.
Akshay Kumar is the most expensive star with a great fan following so he is given the maximum screen space and dialogues and all other artists just seem to give company to him. This one conversation which I think was a bit funny will give you an idea about the level of humor.
Akshay- Kitna loan hai?
Jacky Shroff- 5000 Crore
Akshay- 5000 crore ka loan khud ke liye nahi lete, desh ke liye lete hai.

Though I wonder how he manages to alternatively do films like Singh is Blinng followed by Airlift and then Housefull3 followed by the upcoming Rustom.

Apart from Akshay Kumar, Boman Irani and Chunkey Pandey, Ritesh Deshmukh is the only actor who has been part of all the three films. In earlier films his character was that of a simpleton who gets caught into hilarious situations but here he is made to act dumb by saying dialogues like 'Love is blind ... but in my case the lover is blind' and ' Will you be my tawayaf, i mean wife', which is hardly funny or entertaining.

Abhishek Bachchan's last venture, All Is Well(2015) was a big flop so it's good for him that he got to be a part of this money making franchisee. And as they say, 'Every dog has it's day'. In the last 20 days three films of the Bachchans were released, Aishwarya's Sarbjit, Abhishek's Housefull3 and Amitabh Bachchan's Te3n and we all know which film has entered the 100 Crore club.

Chunkey Pandey is back as 'Aakhiri Pasta' and gets 2-3 scenes where he has to say lame dialogues. It's sad that now everyone knows him by this name instead of remembering him as Baban of Tezaab(1988).
Jacky Shroff must have taken some health tips from son Tiger as he looks fitter and smarter. His role is small and he is not expected to show any great acting skills so he also just parties along with the rest of the star cast.

Though the music is good but again the songs have lyrics like 'pyar ki maa ki' and 'taang utha ke' which any person of reasonable IQ won't like to hum or listen to.

The only saving grace of the film is that there is no vulgarity or abusive dialogues because of which it can be seen with kids and maybe is the only reason why it has earned almost 100 Crores in 10 days.

Sajid Nadiadwala has already declared that Housefull 4 is on the cards so guess till we keep watching such films, the makers will keep cashing on this franchisee and Akshay Kumar's popularity.

In a line, this film is the weakest of the three and has just 3-4 scenes where you will genuinely laugh, so if you have been lucky and avoided the series till now, keep doing so.
If you have nothing better to do and you are a big Akshay Kumar fan then only you should see it.

Baaghi~ What Audiences Want!

Release date- 29th April 2016

One Word which describes the film- Action-packed

Best Dialogue- 'Baaghi bano. Be a rebel,
par kisi maksad ke liye.'

Genre- Action/ Romance

Story- Sanjeev Dutta, Based on Telugu film Varsham (2004)

Direction- Sabbir Khan

Budget- 35 Crores approximately

On 23rd May 2014, Tiger Shroff made his debut through Heropanti which was also directed by Sabbir Khan, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, even the writer was the same and it was also a copy of a South Indian film. Despite being criticized for his unconventional looks and lack of expressions in intense scenes, Tiger Shroff was appreciated for his well chiseled and muscular body and a new action star was born.
Who can forget this cheesy dialogue which he repeats with utter confidence through out the film, 'Kya karu yaar, sabko aati nahi meri jati nahi'.
After two years the team gives us an exactly similar film, set in a different backdrop and it manages to earn 39 Crores in just 3 days.

So here's a key to decoding 'What the Audiences Want' from a film.

1. The story should be different yet be according to the Indian mindset of right and wrong.
(So the makers acquired rights of Telugu romance drama Varsham and then for inspiration saw The Raid: Redemption(2011),The Shaolin Temple (1982) & The Karate Kid(1984)
2. The heroine should be cute and love nature and be ready to dance like a peacock as soon as it rains.
3. Both the hero and heroine should laugh unnecessarily initially so that the audience gets to have an 'All is well' feeling.
4. There should be a comedian who cracks situational (read nonsensical) jokes whenever he enters the frame.
5. The heroine should expose but if she wears a bikini then it should cover more than it reveals, as obviously otherwise the film will be too 'Adult' for the family audience. Remember what happend to Shaandar (Alia in a miniscule fuschia bikini) or Bewakoofiyan (Sonam in an equally tiny pink bikini).
6. The hero while doing action scenes must rip off his shirt and show his well toned body and rippling muscles. The ultimate turn on for single screen's audience which you can gather from the whistles and claps.
7. The kiss should be just touching of the lips and not the 'Emran Hashmi' style because again 'family audience'.
8. After some deadly, bone-breaking action scene the hero must say some dialogue on a lighter note like, 'China ka maal tha, aur kitna chalta' which breaks the tension and the audience can again clap and cheer.
9. The villain must not be some slimy creep who acts like Prem Chopra but a good looking silent guy who becomes violent when he is rejected by the love of his life.
10. And last but not the least everything should fall in place by the end because we Indians love 'Happy Endings'.
In a line nothing sells like an action-packed entertainer in India and this film is surely at par with all the Jackie Chan films one must have seen.
Time-pass. Can be seen for Tiger Shroff's action.

Tamasha ~ Why always the same review !

Release date- 27th Nov 2015

One Word which describes the film - Intense

Best Dialogue -

Deepika- Main Mona, Mona Darling.
Ranbir-  Toh main aap ko Mona kahun ya darling?

Genre - Romance/ Drama

Music -A. R. Rahman

Producer - Sajid Nadiadwala

Story & Direction -Imtiaz Ali

Budget- 50-60 Crores

First of all Tamasha is not a romantic film, at best it can be described as a series of events,  some happy, some sad, some painful and some which will touch your soul.

It's about a guy who thinks that as a child he was special and as he grew up he became a mediocre common man who just does things to please his family and society. Who is running a race without ever hoping to be in the top bracket as the race is not of his choice.

It's about a girl who falls in love with a guy and keeps that image of him for years only to find that with time the guy has completely changed into someone else. She has no ego in confessing her love and her heart refuses to believe what her mind tells her.

The characters are very real. You can identify with these young people who are carefree and want to live life to the hilt. They influence each other sometimes motivating them and other times hurting them unknowingly.

Imtiaz Ali may have been a little confused about how to present his 'different' story to the viewers but his decision of casting Ranbeer to play the role of ' Ved' was perfect.
Ranbeer Kapoor proves that he is a dynamic actor. How he transforms from a cool notorious guy to a well mannered guy to an angry young man to a hurt lover and finally to a confused guy who wants to know the end of his love story from someone else is truly amazing.

Deepika plays the role of a catalyst in helping the guy discover his story. She looks beautiful and shares a very believable on screen chemistry with Ranbeer. Guess Ranvir Singh and Katrina Kaif must have felt quite uneasy while seeing how comfortable the two look with each other.
The music of the film is good but because of the low buzz of the film the music also suffered.

The basic reason behind the masses rejecting the film can be that the director takes too long to come to the main idea. The starting is so slow that till 15 minutes you will wonder what's happening. Once he establishes a theme he again takes the viewers to a different journey again taking too many side paths. It's not that people are not ready to accept a different story, it's just that the first and foremost requirement of the viewers is to feel entertained. When the hero is on one of his soul-searching trips I saw many people letting out deep sighs or playing with their mobiles and some impatient ones even leaving the theatres.
The film has managed to recover it's production cost, against all odds.

In a line you may love the film or hate it but you will surely be impressed by the protagonist's changing body language in different scenes.

If you are a Ranbeer Kapoor fan you can see the film in theaters. Others can wait for it to be aired on TV.

Phantom ~ The world of Kabir Khan, where fiction merges with reality.

Release date - 28'th August 2015

One Word which describes the film - Optimistic

Best Dialogue - ' Aap pooch rahe the kya chahta hai India, India insaaf chahta hai.'

Genre - Action/ Thriller

Story- Kabir Khan, Kausar Munir (Based on Mumbai Avengers by Hussain Zaidi)

Direction -Kabir Khan

Budget- 50 Crores approximately

Kabir Khan made his directorial debut in 1999 with the documentary 'The Forgotten Army' , based on Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army. Since then he has constantly tried to bring to limelight the strength of character and courage of Indians in front of the whole world by making films which are full of patriotism and the never say die attitude of the central characters.
Whether it was Kabul Express (2006), New York (2009), Ek Tha Tiger (2012) or Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) all his films will make you think that sometimes innocent people become mere pawns in the game of few corrupt people who have both power and money.

There is undoubtedly a lot of pressure that comes with recognition, which can be a good thing and bad thing all at the same time.
After Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan became the most successful film of 2015, people were just waiting to find some fault in his next film. I also went with mixed feelings as had read many negative comments from everyone basically saying that the film is overall boring.

Phantom begins with a car chase in Chicago. From there we are taken to the office of the Indian R.A.W. chief, then to the snowy peaks of Kashmir, then to London, then to Beirut, then to a Syrian refugee camp and finally to a small town in MalerkotlaPunjab which was recreated using Urdu hoarding, posters and flags to resemble a Pakistani town. I don't know how people can get bored in such a happening journey.
We all know that the film deals with the master minds behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks who are still living freely in some part of the world.
Any operation deals with three basic steps, the plan, it's execution and then the return to safety. The film has a very well written script and the first half of the film has a good pace. The second half of the film which takes us to a Pakistani town is a bit slow, has few songs and several scenes which will touch your heart and fill you with pride. The only flaw in the perfect story was that the execution of the plan happened too abruptly and the return to safety took too long.

Saif Ali Khan in the titular role had ample opportunity to show his talents. He has given a good performance considering how difficult it's for him to get rid of his rich guy attitude and accent.

I don't know whose idea was it to name a beautiful lady like Katrina Kaif, Nawaz. All through the film her attire were simple and very less attention was paid on glamorizing her so that the focus of the film doesn't shift from the graver issues.

After giving a forgetful performance in All is Well, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is back in form and how. His role is small but he represents all us Indians who are full of anger and frustration and wish there is some way in which a lesson can be taught to the wrong doers.

Music is average. The film has a soulful song "Saware"  sung by Arijit Singh.

The film was released in 2500 screens and due to bad reviews got a poor opening. By the end of the day because of good word of mouth the film managed to collect almost 8
cr on Friday, 13 Crores on Saturday and 12 Crores on Sunday. With Welcome Back releasing this week the film will surely not get a chance to enter the 100 Crore club but it will surely recover it's production costs.

In a line the film is full of hope and optimism and you will surely wish that all of it was true.
Good one time watch. Can be seen in theaters.
