Saheb Biwi aur Gangster 3~ Royalty versus Baba!

Director/ Writer- Tigmanshu Dhulia

Cast- Sanjay Dutt, Jimmy Shergill, Mahi Gill, Chitrangada Singh

Best  Dialogues –

Saheb "I believe only three things can change our lives, dreams, suffering and love. Pareshaniyon se main nikalke aaya hoon, sapna main dekh raha hoon, aur pyar mujhe aksar ho jaata hai."

Biwi- "Sari galat adaten to apne lagayi, baki tabah hone mai is haveli ne sath diya. Yaha bure kaam karne ki lat lag jati hai."

Gangster- "Mere baare mein joh bhi suna hoga bura hi suna hoga, lekin main itna bura nahi hoon ki mere bagal mein khade hone se koi badnaam ho jaaye."

Gangster's Mistress- "Jab naam ke alawa kuch bacha na ho to naam ko bacha bacha ke chalna chahiye."

Saheb Biwi aur Gangster franchise is a  story about a royal family of U.P. where Jimmy Sheirgill is Raja Aditya Pratap Singh and Mahi Gill is his wife, Rani Madhavi Devi.

The first two parts were high-octane drama full of plot twists, volatile characters, good dialogues and sizzling chemistry between the lead pairs. Actors Randeep Hooda and Irrfan Khan had played gangsters in the previous films.

Tigmanshu Dhulia decided to add a star like Sanjay Dutt to add glamour to the film but guess his plan backfired.
The story is supposed to be a saga of deceit, lust, ambition and revenge where the Biwi uses the Gangster to defeat the Saheb but ends up as a life saga of the gangster.

The film starts with Sanjay Dutt as Uday Pratap Singh, a banished prince, who has made a fortune in London by playing Russian Roulette. A lot of time is wasted in establishing Sanjay Dutt's character, telling about his anger, his girlfriend, his family members which has no relevance to the story. The Baba theme track that accompanies Sanjay Dutt every time he says a winning dialogue, “He’s the baba.. dekho dekho dekho aya tera baap”, is the only memorable thing about the gangster's character.

Chitrangada Singh plays the role of a dancer and Uday Pratap's mistress. Neither she looks like a villager nor her accent helps her in fitting in the character. Her love scenes with Uday are boring as the character of the Gangster was supposed to be a raunchy man who loses his heart at every pretty face. To see the gangster settle into an easy romantic relation was a big turnoff. When the evil Biwi tries to flirt with him, an uncomfortable gangster tells her that there was no need of doing all this. It was like we went to watch "Jism" and ended up watching "Hum saath saath hai"!

Jimmy Sheirgill and Mahi Gill, who were instrumental in bringing success to the previous films get less chance to show their talent. Their scenes are poorly written and they end up looking like side character's in the gangster's story.
The film is full of character artists like Kabir Bedi, Nafisa Ali, Zakir Hussain, Deepak Tijori, Soha Ali Khan, Deepraj Rana who have nothing to do. Except few dialogues here and there and some fiery exchanges between Saheb and Biwi there is nothing entertaining in the film.
The climax was highly disappointing and though it hinted at a sequel I hope there is no 4th part.
The film was made at a budget of 20 Crore and has managed to earn just 3.8 Crore in 2 days which is less than what the first part made in 2011. The film is a disaster and will end up earning less than 10 Crore at the Box-Office.

In a line, the series was supposed to be a tale of power games, lust and deceit but the director's obsession with the gangster has lead to the death of this franchise.

Avoidable.

Review of PK

Release date - 19'th December 2014

One Word which describes the film -Heart-warming

Best Dialogue - 'Jo dar gaya wo mandir gaya.'

Genre -Comedy/Drama

Story, Direction & Editing -Rajkumar Hirani

Budget- 50 crores +P&A

PK was the most awaited film of 2014. Rajkumar Hirani uses his time tested formula of questioning the current system and providing an alternate solution.
The plot is simple, the characters are down to earth, there is no item song or exotic locations still the director manages to evoke emotions with the tale of a person who is not used to the corrupt ways of our world.
Amir Khan is the soul of PK. He is the wide eyed, big eared alien who manages to steal all attention with his weird dresses and innocent questions. The shooting of PK started in 2012 when a similar film OMG – Oh My God!  was released. Any other actor would not have dared working in a film with an almost similar story. It's Amir's belief in the director and his own acting capabilities that made him do this film.
Anushka Sharma as the young and enthusiastic journalist gives stiff competition to Amir and manages to leave an impact in the mind of the audiences.
Other characters have small roles which provide ample drama and keep us fully entertained.
As expected the film got a good opening day collection of 26 crores. With no competition and good word of mouth the film has the capability of earning 200 crores plus at the box office.
Other superstars who are busy in just making money and working in forgettable films like Happy New Year, Kick, Happy Ending, Kill Dil, Bang Bang, Action Jackson should learn from Amir the art of choosing films which touch hearts and make a special place there forever.
In a line, though the story is simple but it's presentation is such that you will get attached to the characters and wish to have people like that in your life.
Must watch for Amir Khan fans. Paisa vasool.

Review of Policegiri

Release date –5'th July 2013

One Word which describes the film – Combo

Best  Dialogue –

'Aapko dekh kar aisa lagta hai jaise Gabbar Singh ne police force join kar li ho'

Genre – Action /Comedy

Story -  Hari ( remake of the 2003 Tamil film Saamy )

Music – Himesh Reshammiya , Meet Bros Anjjan

Producer - T.P. Aggarwal , Rahul Aggarwal

Direction K. S. Ravikumar

Budget- 25- 30 crores (approximately)

The film started in a Rohit Shetty kind of style with flying cars , flying people and lots of gun shots and noise. Sanjay Dutt must have completed the opening scenes just before going to prison as he looked haggard and out of shape.

With the entry of Prakash Raj the film started becoming entertaining. There were many humorous scenes between Sanjay Dutt and Prakash Raj .

We all have seen many dubbed South Indian films but there is something motivational in watching a film where the hero fights corruption and cleans the city of corrupt politicians.

Prachi Desai is too young to play Sanjay Dutt's love interest . The couple looked very odd. It's good that she had a very small  role and mostly appeared in the song and dance sequences.

Om Puri was totally wasted in the role of a helpless Commissioner .

In a line , even though Sanjay Dutt doing policegiri is not as good as Sanjay doing Gandhigiri , the film has a good story and dialogues to keep you entertained .

Time-pass. Can be seen in theaters if you like remakes of South Indian films.

Review of Zila Ghaziabad

Release date – 1'st March 2013

One Word which describes the film – Gory

Best  Dialogue –
"Angrezi main bolne se jhooth sach nahi ban jata "

Genre – Action / Thriller

Story -
Anand Kumar

Music – Amjad Nadeem

Producer -  Vinod Bachan , Showman International

Direction Anand Kumar

Budget –  40 crores approximately

The film is based on the true story of a gang war between two powerful rival groups of  Satbir Gurjar and Mahender fauji, which finished only when a police cop Pritam Singh arrived at the scenario.

The film starts with a sequence in which a train is being successfully robbed by a gang of robbers led by  Fauji . Arshad Warsi as the cruel , heartless wanted criminal  for whom killing people is easier than breathing, is the life and soul of the film. His character with the Aviators , gamcha and kohl rimmed eye looks like a real gangster.

Vivek Oberoi as the guy who returns to his zila after completing his education is above average.Though his love angle with 2-3 songs ,slows the speed  of the film and could have been edited.

Sanjay Dutt's   introduction is done with the dialogue ' jitne criminals ke against case nahi hai utni uske against enquiries chal rahi hai ' . He makes his appearance near interval and has some good dialogues .He is shown as a ruthless inspector who believes in planning and scheming to beat the criminals .  He listens to Madhuri Dixit's songs and dances with item girls when he is in mood .

After witnessing Paresh Rawal's  excellent acting in OMG his character in this film disappoints.
Ravi Kishan 's character is not well developed and he is shown totally dependent on Fauji or other politicians .The film is full of actresses like Charmee Kaur , Minissha Lamba , Divya Dutta and  Zarina Wahab who have nothing much to do. Then there is Asutosh Rana with just one memorable dialogue 'Hum konsa Salman Khan hai ki commitment karke piche nai hatt sakte.'  We also get to see Chandrachur Singh in a 5 min role.

The film is actually not bad but most of it reminds us of scenes we have seen in earlier films like Gardish  ,  Omkara  , Dabangg and other 80's films where the hero seeks revenge for the injustice done to him and his family.

In a line this Zila is shown as a land full of bloodshed and a city of injustice where half of the film's budget must have been spent on bullets and bottles of blood ,I mean tomato ketchup .

People who like Arshad Warsi and mindless action can watch it.
Caution- Loud sounds can be injurious to ear drums !
