The film is an Indian version of the 1998 hit Hollywood film ' You've Got Mail '.
In the film the heroine says a line , 'People are always telling you that change is a good thing .But all they're really saying is that something you didn't want to happen at all ,has happened.'
This film is also about changes . A man who is about to retire and a lonely housewife exchange small notes through a lunchbox and develop a strong bond . The woman is young and is ready to take steps which can totally change her life but the man who is old enough to be her father has his doubts.

The direction of the film is it's finest point. It's really commendable that how with just 3 characters and a voice the director manages to present a story which makes the audience identify with the characters. We feel the fear of an about to retire man who was so engrossed in his work and daily life that he never realised that he has grown old. We feel sad for the housewife whose husband has lost interest in her and pays more attention to his cell phone .

Irrfan Khan has played the role of a much older man with such ease that you forget the actor , you only see him as Mr. Fernandez .
Nimrat Kaur gives strong competition to Irrfan and it's difficult to decide who has given a better performance.
Nawazuddin is an amazing actor and though he has a vital role in the film ,this story isn't about him.

After a totally detailed sketch of Mumbai dabba system and local trains the abrupt climax was a bit disappointing .

In a line the film is about how sometimes the small things can bring a big change in your life and it's better to take risks at time than to lead a mundane life .
Good one time watch.

  1. So finally you saw the film after the whole world saw it and it also missed the Oscars nomination for which big hue & cry is made about by Karan Johar as i guess that was the main reason he backed and released the movie to score Oscar nomination in his CV

Its a simple beautiful movie and word of mouth publicity has pulled this movie ahead and has collected over 13Cr in 10 days which is great as its a super low budget movie and Irfan was one of the co-producers too, which shows how much belief he in the story , and its interesting that the director traveled with the Dabba Wallahs and listened to their stories of different houses from where he got the germ of idea to make such a awesome movie

Majority of the Indian Wives are trying hard to find that DabaWala so that their Daba's too land up at one of the wrong office but to Mr Right's hands who appreciates the food and start of another story.....

The most awesome role was of the Aunty Ji , whose guidance started her joys in her life and this heroine is the one in Cadbury's advertisement in the car at the signal, where she is licking her melted chocolate, so glamorous but in the movie playing ordinary housewife was superb

Irfaan is Irfaan simply the best amongst the best and its a joy to see his desperate and eyes angle to watch if his Green color Tiffin Box gets delivered to his table or not and does the magic continue....

Yes the ending is abrupt and leaves you hungry to know weather he made it to her home before she leaves with her kid....no idea why he did not show that, maybe to not take the bold step like in Life in a Metro where Shilpa refuses to pull the trigger at the last moment when her looser husband comes back home to his wife & kid

Saw the movie twice, simply WOW movie
