Kahaani2- Durga Raani Singh

Release date- 2nd December 2016

One Word which describes the film- Dramatic

Best Dialogue- "Jo raaz raaz rehne the, wo aaj mujhe phir kholne honge."

Genre- Thriller

Music- Clinton Cerejo

Producer- Sujoy Ghosh, Jayantilal Gada

Story & Direction- Sujoy Ghosh

Cast- Vidya Balan, Arjun Rampal, Jugal Hansraj

Budget- 30-35 Crore approximately

Kahaani was made on a budget of 8 Crores and it earned almost 70 Crores at the box office, making it one of the super-hit films of 2012.
After 4 years we get another film of the same franchisee but this time the director has failed to recreate the same success story.

Initially, Durga Rani Singh was intended to be a standalone film starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but later the makers made it as a sequel to Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan.
I think this was the biggest mistake as Kahaani is known for its suspense which kept the audience rooted to their seats till the end. This film was made in an entirely different way with events happening one after another and till interval any person of average IQ could have guessed what was going to happen next. The predictability factor disappointed the audience and most of them came out of the theater saying that though the film is good it's no match to the original "Kahaani".

Vidya Balan is perfect for the role of Durga. Her acting is flawless. The way she expresses the anguish, disappointment, pain and anxiety is so real that she manages to keep us involved in the story till the end.

Arjun Rampal looks fit and smart. As his character supports the main character, his acting is subtle and he has managed to give a decent performance.

Jugal Hansraj makes his comeback as an actor but his acting is average and he doesn't looks very convincing in his role.

Lighting is one of the most critical aspects of a film. In most of the scenes the lighting is so less that we couldn't appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

The film was released in 1250 screens and it managed to get an opening of just 4.5 Crores. With YRF'S Befikre occupying almost 60% screens next week, it'll be a task for the film to even make a lifetime collection of 30 Crores.

In a line, though the story is quite predictable, it can be seen for Vidya Balan's excellent acting.

Review of Bobby Jasoos

Release date - 4'th July 2014

One Word which describes the film - Mundane

Best Dialogue -' Tereku malum nahi ki kis se panga liya hai , choregi nahi Bobby tereku.'

Genre - Comedy

Music - Shantanu Moitra

Producer- Dia Mirza ,Sahil Sangha ,Reliance Entertainment

Story & Direction -Samar Shaikh

Budget - 30 crores

Sherlock Holmes after solving complex cases used to say to his assistant "Elementary, my dear Watson" , while explaining the case to him.
Guess the makers of the film took this phrase too seriously and made such an elementary film that in no way it can be categorized as a detective film. The characters, the plot, the suspense everything is so simple that it just borders on being boring.
Though the story is simple the director has paid ample attention to detailing and giving authenticity to the sets. The hyderabadi dialect ,the small houses, the busy streets all look real but sadly the current generation who like thrill and speed will hardly be impressed by these things.
Vidya Balan is an excellent actress but after giving flops like Ghanchakkar and Shaadi ke side effects ,we have started doubting her choice of films. Once you have given master pieces like , The Dirty Pictute and Kahaani people expect nothing but the best from you.
Ali Fazal has a small role but has given a good performance.
Other veteran acors like Zarina Wahab , Tanvi Azmi and Supriya Pathak have also done justice with their roles.
Music is average and all the songs are forgettable.
The film had a poor opening and managed to earn just 10 crores in a week. As the film has a big budget it is a big loss for the producers.
In a line if you are a very big Vidya Balan fan then also you must think twice before spending money on watching this film in theaters.
Can be seen when is aired on TV.

Review of shaadi ke side effects

Release date – 28'th February 2014

One Word which describes the film – Mundane

Best Dialogue - 'Meri galti hoti hai to main sorry bolta hoon, meri wife ki galti hoti hai to main sorry bolta hoon. Ladai hoti hi nahi .'

Genre – Comedy/ Drama

Music – Pritam

Story & Direction -Saket Chaudhary

Budget- 40 crores

Saket Chaudhary made his directorial debut with  Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006) . In this film he takes us to what happens after the romance , the candlelight dinners and the honeymoon is over.
Farhan and Vidya are both talented actors and so we expected a lot of on screen fireworks on the screen. The film started in a good way showing great chemistry between the lead actors .But slowly as the love went away from their wedding , viewers also started losing interest.
The main problem in the film is , the lack of well defined characters.
Farhan's character is confused most of the times and one can't understand whether he wants to be with his wife , his friends , wants alone time or wants to just watch a football match .
Vidya since the start of the film is shabbily dressed and has no other work except for  having a baby , taking care of the baby , talking about that baby and then planning for another baby ! As if a housewife's life just revolves around a baby.
Purab Kohli , Vir Das and Ila Arun must have been added as after thoughts in the film as their presence took the film nowhere and after sometime they just made a silent exit from the film.

There were few good dialogues in the film like , "I felt like Sehwag. Ek do match kharab kya khele team se hi nikaal diya aur naya young, player rakh liya and ' doosro ke bacche and puppies sabko acche lagte hai ' but making a complete film just on the basis of few dialogues is not a very good idea.

In a line the film justifies its name and is like marriage which sometimes is sweet , sometimes exciting and sometimes so boring and mundane that we start wondering that were we better off as singles .

Timepass . Can be seen in theaters.
