Lootera set in 1950's is the love story of a rich Zamindar's daughter and a young man who comes and stays at their home.
The film starts with a Ramleela scene where we are introduced to the two main characters of the film ,Pakhi and her doting father the Zamindar of Manikpur. Pakhi is an artistic, strong willed girl who is not afraid of telling what her heart wants.
The Zamindar is worried because, post-independence the zamindari system has come to an end and he has to surrender his lands and precious artifects to the government.
The sets of the film look real with emphasis on minute details like the presence of a gramophone in the living room, antique furniture , vintage car, and an old radio playing songs of Dev Anand's film 'Baazi' .
The second half shot in Dalhousie , captures the natural beauty of the town.
So despite having good sets ,great music and above average actors why didn't the film appeal to the audience ?
All of us who have read 'The last leaf' , know it's a short story about two girls and an old painter who wishes to create a master piece.
To convert this short story into a full fledged film the director converted it into a love story with lots of unnecessary tragedies and pathos.
Sonakshi Sinha manages to give an award winning performance in the film. With her minimal makeup and rich sarees she looks like a rich heiress. In the second half her pale face and dark circles look so real that you feel pity for her.
Ranveer Singh's clean shaven look in first half wearing high waist trousers is quiet 1950's. Though , I wonder why most of his dialogues were dubbed in such a low voice that they were hardly audible.

In a line , the film is surely not made for the masses and has many slow sequences where you will get bored and wonder when is it going to end.

ReplyDeleteI went into this movie with huge expectations as comes from the guy who gave us Udaan - simply mind blowing movie it was and this turned out to be a damp squib and lousy paced movie
ReplyDeleteThe movie literally robbed me of my time and my money and is thus aptly titled Lootera - the movie pace was like constipation - shit that happens with its own pace and makes the guy suffer till its over and flushed out - terrible movie and the movie has flopped big time as per collections of the BO
There was no romance , what they were talking could hardly be heard as if they were watching Porn and had to murmur their romantic talks. Throughout the movie Sonakshi was getting asthama attack (which turned to be TB ) later on, those repeated asthama attack made me and the public breathless and walk out for fresh air till she gets a injection
Weird that Ranveer lands up at her guest house in another city and he does not bother to check who is the land lord and related nonsense build up
Most sad part of the movie was when he gets the escape window from his friend Madhu and he turns back to the guest house again, just imagine had he gone with Madhu, we would have saved 30 minutes of our time and pain in the head phase
The best part of the movie was when it comes THE END , that was magical and joyful moments of my life as i got to get out of the theater and into fresh air and relief from the headache
You cant make such slow pace movies, all the bull shit of canvas of love and cinematic experience are all paid articles in papers by critics and me like innocent person gets fooled into and goes to see the movie and comes back a bitter person
Absolute high class rubbish movie, must NOT WATCH even on TV , just skip it like a virus and delete it from the system.....pure constipation pace shit movie
I loved the movie.golden silence in sone scenes and the romance which took place courtesy the eyes of the actors.
